Companies are seeking students for externship placements. These placements are intended to provide students with real-world experience that enhances collegiate experience.

A supervisor who is knowledgeable in information technology
Placement of at least 50 hours within a given semester

You to be prompt with your scheduled shifts
Professionalism in all forms of communication
You to be a true representation of Mott Community College
Eagerness to learn new things
Your complete effort in providing service to a business
What is the process ?
1. You contact us to inform us that you are interested in being an extern by filling out the student application packet.
2. If an employer matches your skills, you will be expected to:
a. Create a resume and cover letter (graded material if you obtain employment)
b. Have your resume reviewed by the department coordinator
c. Dress professionally and attend an interview
d. Send a thank you letter for the interview (graded material if you obtain employment)
3. If you are selected for placement by an employer, you will be expected to:
a.
Register for the externship course(es)
b. Ensure that the placement business completes bi-weekly time journals/evaluations of your progress * these journals are required to obtain credit for time worked
c. Complete bi-weekly summaries of your experience and submit them to Blackboard
(graded material)
d.
Upon completion of your placement, you will be expected to send a thank you letter to the employer and meet with the Information Technology Coordinator to discuss your experience (graded material) *failure to meet with the coordinator will result in a failing grade for the entire course
